Battery Drain

by Carl Powell III

Battery Drain is a simple program that helps you maintain the best use of your PowerBook batteries. By running the program, you can help extend the length of time that your batteries will work in your PowerBook or other Mac portable computer.

When to use Battery Drain

Whenever you get the message that your PowerBook needs to be plugged in, simply run Battery Drain and let it run. The program will keep the computer busy until it puts itself to sleep.

The program simply writes a small file to the computer's hard disk drive (or wherever Battery Drain is located), then reads the file, pauses, then erases the file, then starts the process over again. This keeps the hard drive spinning and thus uses power faster.

The result of all this is that your batteries are fully discharged (to a safe point) so that they do not get a "short memory" by keeping them charging all the time. If you only use them a little, then charge them, they start to "think" that you will only require a few minutes from the battery and soon, they'll be worthless.

My powerbook battery will sometimes last up to 2 hours or more on my PB165. I'm sure you'll see enhanced results if you use this program religiously.
